Announcements

Gentry Gym will be closed on Sunday May 25 because of Memorial Day. Therefore, the Loma Linda chapter cannot have its regular Sunday meeting on that day. Members can meet their groups in the front of the Gym but we will not be able to help new members in Loma Linda on May 25.

Current Information

We are now in the "off season" period between the time of the Los Angeles Marathon and the start of the 2009 Los Angeles Marathon Clinic sometime next July. We do not have a training program during this period but we do meet informally on most Sundays at 6:30 AM in both Riverside and Loma Linda, and usually there will be people there who will be glad to answer your questions and get you started on a training program that is right for you. Before coming for the first time you should check the announcements at this web site to be sure we are not closed that Sunday you are planning to come because of participation in some event.

Although we are only meeting informally now, we welcome new members at any time. Just come to our meetings at Riverside or Loma Linda on Sunday mornings. The membership cost is $80 for individuals, $120 for couples residing at the same address and $20 for children under 18 (without t-shirt). Memberships for people who join after the Los Angeles Marathon will be valid through the end of the next L.A. Marathon Clinic, next year. We are unable to prorate memberships.

Click here for information about the 2008 L.A. Marathon clinic that just ended and for the Los Angeles Marathon 2008 Training Schedule that we used. The program for next year will be similar, and more information will be posted here when available.

Click here for Suggested Maintenance, Full and Half Marathon Training and Marathon Recovery Schedules that can be used for any race that you select.

Riverside Chapter

A preliminary map of the training route for the Riverside chapter is now available. The exact route after 10 miles has not been finalized yet, and once it is determined an updated route will be posted here.

The Lopers Club has formed a new chapter in Riverside. The Riverside Chapter meets at 6:30 AM on Sunday mornings at the California Citrus State Park, at 9400 Dufferin Avenue (at the corner of Van Buren), in Riverside (see MapQuest map). Parking is available at the dirt lot on Dufferin Avenue across the street from the park slightly to the north of the main entrance. Enter the park through the gate across the street from the parking lot. (The main entrance is normally closed when we meet.)

The Riverside Chapter is conducting the LA Marathon clinic in parallel with that in Loma Linda (see below), with the same program and training schedule. In addition to LA Marathon training, we also have a program for those who are not interested in training for a full marathon, but would like to train just for fitness or shorter races.

The Clinic opening day was July 15, and is continuing each Sunday thereafter. The Sunday distance for those training for the 2008 LA Marathon is now 15 miles or higher. Click here for additional information about the ongoing LA Marathon Clinic, and for the current training schedule through the Los Angeles Marathon.

We would like to hear from the current and past Loper Club membership about who would be interested in being a "founding" member of this new Riverside Chapter and who among those would be interested and willing to volunteer in some capacity to help establish the Riverside Chapter and its Marathon Training Clinic. Please email us at info2@lopersclub.org if you are interested in volunteering. Volunteers do not have to be Lopers members.

Loma Linda Chapter

Click here for a map of our current Loma Linda Sunday training route. The route is the same as we have been using up to 15 miles, but was changed for 20+ mile distances to avoid the construction along the channel, and also to give "double duty" to our 2-mile water stop.

The Lopers continue to offer the LA Marathon Clinic in Loma Linda. The Loma Linda Chapter meets at 6:30 AM on Sundays at Drayson Center, on the campus of the Loma Linda University.

The Loma Linda Chapter is conducting the LA Marathon Clinic in parallel with that in Riverside (see above), with the same program and training schedule. In addition to the LA Marathon training, we also have a program for those who are not interested in training for a full marathon, but would like just to train for fitness or shorter races.

Loper members can join the Drayson Center Gym for a significantly reduced cost of $250.00 per year. Membership includes Use of pool, weight room, aerobic classes, etc. You can do your cross training at the gym! Check at the Loper desk on Sunday morning to sign up. This offer is good through the Loper’s only, and is valid for Riverside as well as Loma Linda members.

The opening of the Riverside chapter means that we will be losing some of the volunteers that have helped at Loma Linda in previous years. Therefore, we are in need of new volunteers to help keep our program strong in Loma Linda! Please email us at info2@lopersclub.org if you are interested in volunteering. Volunteers do not have to be Lopers members.

Lopers Speed Group

The Team Lopers Speed Group meets at the Drayson Center track every Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM.  This is open to Riverside as well as Loma Linda members. The Lopers wish to thank Russ Barber for leading this group. Russ can be contacted by email at marathoner26.2@sbcglobal.net or by phone at (909) 825-7566. This group is for experienced runners of any speed who want to improve their running times. (If the gate to the track is locked, you can use your Lopers ID to enter the field through the building.) The web site for the Lopers Speed group is at http://runnersmania.com. There is also an on-line discussion group for the Lopers Speed Group, which is available at http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/loperspeed_news/

Lopers Walking Group

Walkers are encouraged to join the walking group, which meets on Thursday evenings at 6:00 PM at the Drayson Center track in Loma Linda. The Lopers wish to thank Ron Whitehead for taking over this group. For information on the walking clinic, contact Ron at Ron@malcolmdrywall.com. (If the gate to the track is locked, you can use your Lopers ID to enter the field through the building.) This is open to Riverside as well as Loma Linda members.

About the Lopers

The Lopers Club has something to offer everyone interested in improving their fitness through walking, jogging, or running. From the slowest beginning walker to the fastest experienced runners, we provide training geared to all fitness levels.  We meet each Sunday morning at 6:30 at the Drayson Center on the campus of Loma Linda University or at the California Citrus State Park, at 9400 Dufferin Avenue (at the corner of Van Buren), in Riverside (see MapQuest map).

The Lopers Club is one of the largest running and fitness club in Southern California, with over 700 members.  Many of our current members are shown in the members group pictures page.

One of the main activities of the Lopers' Club is to train walkers, runners, or joggers to complete their first full 26.2 mile marathon at Los Angeles in March each year. Nearly 100% of the Lopers who enter the L.A. Marathon finish it! See above for more information.

We also offer our members the opportunity to train with our Team Lopers speed group, which meets at the Drayson Center Tuesday night at 7:00 PM. Team Lopers is for veteran runners who wish to improve their running speed.

For further information, see the President's Message, or call: (951) 769-8300 and leave message, or email info2@lopersclub.org.
