Jim Walling, President
Welcome to The Lopers Club! Our founder, Don Hall, chose the coyote as our mascot because he and his running buddies saw coyotes "loping" through the orange groves on early morning runs and identified with them.
That was in 1977 and we have come a long way as a running club from that time. We are now one of the largest running clubs in California.
We have something to offer everyone interested in improving their level of health, fitness, or physical activity through walking, jogging, or running. From the slowest beginning walker to runners approaching world class times, we provide training geared to all fitness levels.
We meet each Sunday morning at 6:30 AM. We have two locations for you to choose from. One is at the Drayson Center, located on the campus of Loma Linda University; the other is at the California Citrus State Historical Park in Riverside (see MapQuest map). Our marathon training program started July 15, but you can register as late as September 30th and still complete the program. Our membership fees are currently only $80 per year; $40 for Spouses, $20 for kids under 18 years, and $60 for students with a current student ID card. Our membership year runs from August 1st through the following July 31st.
We operate the Club almost 100% by volunteers. This is such an important part of our Club that we invite friends and families of our members to volunteer and enjoy our activities while making it possible for us to continue to grow and expand our services. They reap rich rewards in terms of personal satisfaction for helping others improve their fitness level and change their life styles. This is what the Lopers Club is all about...caring for others.
The Lopers Club is a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization, which means that donations to the Club are tax deductible. Donations are needed to continue providing our charitable events. So remember us when you want to pay less taxes...and tell a friend!
The Loma Linda Lopers Club is affiliated with the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA).
One of the main activities of the Lopers' Club is to train walkers, runners, or joggers to complete their first full 26.2 mile marathon at Los Angeles in March each year. Almost 100% of the Lopers who enter the L.A. Marathon, finish it! Registration for the Clinic starts on July 15 at 6:30AM and continues any Sunday through September. You can register either in Loma Linda at the Drayson Center or in Riverside at the California Citrus State Park, You can also join the Lopers Club at these locations any Sunday morning all year 'round.
We also participate in numerous other distance runs throughout the year. And we conduct the City of Loma Linda's Holiday Classic 15k/5k run in December each year.
If you are visiting in the area or have been thinking about becoming more physically active, we invite you to come to either of the above locations any Sunday morning at 6:30 A.M. and join us for an early morning run or walk -- as slow or as fast as you like. Just DO IT! We will take good care of you!
If you are newly located in the area, again WELCOME! Whatever your distance or pace, some of our members will be doing the same. You will fit right in. Come out and look us over. See you Sunday in Riverside or Loma Linda ---
